Casing Hazel terbuat dari kombinasi plastik keras dan metal stainless di beberapa bagian. Layarnya dilapisi kaca bening anti gores. Alhasil, secara fisik tampilan luar Hazel tak jauh beda dengan Elm. Yang pasti, sebagai generasi Green Hearth maka material yang dipakai bisa didaur ulang alias recycle-able. Jadi, ramah lingkungan.
Keypad Hazel dibuat datar dan tersembunyi dalam disain geser. Strukturnya rapat, dengan bentuk baris menyatu. Meski begitu, tetap nyaman diakses.

Hazel a.k.a J20i merupakan salah satu generasi ponsel ‘GreenHeart’ garapan Sony Ericsson. Sebelumnya ada Naite (J105) dan juga Elm (J10i2). Semuanya mendukung kampanye ramah lingkungan. Bahkan, beberapa fitur bawaannya pun dibuat khusus untuk keperluan ini semisal Eco mate dan Green Calculator. Fitur lainnya? Pastinya mumpuni.
Bisa dibilang Hazel sebagai wujud lain dari Sony Ericsson Elm. Hanya, kini didandani dalam konsep geser alias slider, yang terlihat lebih atraktif
Disain & Interface
Bentukkan Hazel tetap ergonomis serupa Elm, dimana lekuk bodinya disesuaikan dengan kontur telapak tangan. Sony Ericsson menyebutnya sebagai “human curvature” disain. Bagian belakang bodi dibuat melengkung (curve) dari ujung atas ke bawah.
Casing Hazel terbuat dari kombinasi plastik keras dan metal stainless di beberapa bagian. Layarnya dilapisi kaca bening anti gores. Alhasil, secara fisik tampilan luar Hazel tak jauh beda dengan Elm. Yang pasti, sebagai generasi Green Hearth maka material yang dipakai bisa didaur ulang alias recycle-able. Jadi, ramah lingkungan.
Keypad Hazel dibuat datar dan tersembunyi dalam disain geser. Strukturnya rapat, dengan bentuk baris menyatu. Meski begitu, tetap nyaman diakses.
Diagonal layar Hazel tergolong luas untuk ukuran ponsel sejenis, yakni 2,6 inci. Ketajaman layarnya 16 juta warna, pada resolusi QVGA (240x320 piksel). Tampilan menu dan thema bisa diatur sesuai selera, bisa berupa grid, rotasi atau ikon.
Interface Hazel pun didukung sensor akselerometer, untuk kemampuan autorotate layar.
Multimedia
Media hiburan Hazel tercatat mirip dengan seri premium lain di kelasnya. Ada pengelompokan player musik, video, foto dan game dalam satu folder ‘Media’. Struktur dan karakteristiknya mencontek platform Walkman Player. Termasuk hadirnya fitur SensMe, untuk mengatur file lagu berdasarkan suasana hati. Tampilan player ini bisa dipersonalisasi via pilihan style background.
Hazel dibekali dua buah kamera, depan untuk video call sedang belakang untuk ambil foto dengan resolusi 5 MP. Fasilitas pendukung tergolong profesional. Ada autofokus, LED flash, smile & face detection serta geo-tagging. Untuk kualitas hasil foto, bisa dibilang tak mengecewakan.
Untuk hasil potret outdoor terlihat terang dan tajam serupa aslinya. Tangkapan warnanya baik, meski sedikit kurang fokus. Jelasnya, sudah sangat lumayan. Ini berbeda dengan hasil foto indoor, yang terlihat tak maksimal. Gambar terlihat agak pucat meski pencahayaan telah dibantu LED flash.
Cuma, menariknya hasil foto bisa langsung diupload ke portal online penyedia layanan foto sharing. Misalnya Flickr, Picasa atau pun Blogger.
Selain foto, kamera Hazel bisa dipakai merekam video. Format defaultnya mp4 dengan ukuran VGA@30fps. Hasil rekamnya lumayan baik dan mulus. Sebagai konsekuensinya, ukuran filenya tergolong besar, boros memori.
Berlaih ke pemutar musik, yang terdeteksi masih menonjolkan karakteristik pemutar musik Walkman. Kualitas output audionya tergolong ‘biasa’, kalah dari Walkman. Padahal sudah ditambahkan menu equalizer dan stereo widening.
Alunan musik bisa diperdengarkan lewat headset Bluetooth stereo, mengingat ‘gigi biru’ Hazel mendukung profile A2DP. Sebagai pelengkap, disediakan pula radio FM, dengan performa rata-rata ponsel sekelasnya.
Konektivitas
Sektor ini nampaknya terakomodasi dengan baik oleh Hazel. Tak hanya Bluetooth dan kabel data, namun ada pula Wi-Fi (WLAN), yang bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai kanal menikmati internet di area hotspot.
Selain itu, Sony Ericsson Hazel sudah membekali diri dengan network HSDPA 7,2 Mbps dan HSUPA 2.0 Mbps, selain EDGE dan GPRS. Saat dijajal membuka halaman web, prosesnya berjalan dengan cukup cepat dan lancar. Termasuk pula untuk mengakses situs dengan fitur Flash. Maklumlah, browser yang dijejalkan ke dalam Hazel merupakan versi terbaru: NetFront 3.5, dengan dukungan mini maps dan pointer (kursor).
Aplikasi & instalasi
Sony Ericsson J20i Hazel tak ubahnya generasi premium Sony Ericsson. Di perangkat ini disematkan GPS receiver, dengan sistem A-GPS. Untuk Buat peta digitalnya, J20i menawarkan dua pilihan yaitu Wisepilot dan Google Maps. Hanya saja, untuk Wisepilot cuma diberikan masa trial selama 3 bulan. Selanjutnya kudu membeli, untuk mendapatkan versi full.
Hazel juga menyajikan widget aplikasi Facebook khusus Sony Ericsson. Di sini kita bisa memantau, memberi komentar, menulis status hingga upload foto ke akun Facebook secara langsung. Begitu pula untuk MySpace, Twitter dan jejaring sosial lain.
Seperti yang sudah kita singgung di muka, Hazel dilengkapi aplikasi khas Green Hearth yakni Eco mate dan Green calculator.
Ada fitur lain yang cukup menarik perhatian. Adalah Noise Shield dan Clear voice. Kedua fasilitas ini bisa dimanfaatkan untuk menyaring suara bising kala bertelepon. Hasilnya, suara yang terdengar bakal lebih jernih dan jelas layaknya berkomunikasi secara langsung.
Sony Ericsson J20i tercatat pula memiliki kemampuan merekam percakapan telpon (call record).
Hardware
Sony Ericsson Hazel menyuguhkan kapasitas memori internal sebesar 280 MB, tak jauh beda dengan Elm. Tapi, slot kartu memori Hazel tercatat sudah mendukung kapasitas memori hingga 16GB. Tak lagi 8GB seperti Elm. Sayangnya, memori card ini tak disertakan dalam paket penjualan.
Kesimpulan
Guna menghidupi bermacam fasilitas Hazel, Sony Ericsson melekatkan baterai lithium ion 1000 mAh (BST-43). Dalam sekali chaz untuk pemakaian normal bisa bertahan sampai 3 hari.Namun, jika sarana hiburan serta dibuat lama browsing maka ketahanan baterai bakal merosot drastis.
